Review of Literature

This part is where you mention the major findings of other researches, it is descriptive since you describe what the others have done.

The next part which is more complicated is mentioning the controversies in the field

The third part would be a critical evaluation, taking things one step further and talking about the problem from a theoretical and methodological perspective.

These are not considered as stages, but rather things you need to cover in your review of literature. How you might decide to do it comes down to you and your taste

There are several ways you can order the information you have:

• Based on your research questions

You would cover studies related to each one of your research questions

• Based on topics

You would review general areas related to your research

• Based on the variables

You cover studies concerning each one of your variables

• Chronologically

From the oldest researches and findings to the most recent ones

• You can also write your review the literature using a combination of the orders mentioned above

Now imagine you have a paper and you want to review it in your review of literature, these are the things you need to write about:

• General research question and hypotheses
• Methods, participants, instruments
• Findings
• A critique of the above mentioned research
