APA Sixth Edition

In writing any academic paper there is a certain template to be followed and as mentioned in the previous post, the template used in linguistics is APA^6th. It is axiomatic that the going over the entire manuscript would require a lot of time and is absolutely beyond the scope of this post. However, following is going to give you a starting point and familiarize you with the basics.

WRITING A PAPER FOLLOWING APA^6th STYLE:

The pages of your paper need to have a margine of 1^inch on each side. They must be double spaced, i.e. there should be a 2-centimeter distance between the lines. And the text must be typed using Times New Roman with a font size of 12.

The outlook of the first page (title page) :

This is the general outlook of the first page.

Please note that exept for the title page, all the other pages should have only the title as their header.(WITHOUT RUNNING HEAD)

IN-TEXT CITATION:

In the previous post we learned how we can use another author's notions in a paper. In this post however, we aim to learn how we can cite another author directly. Given the length (number of words) of the part we are citing the rules differ. The following table can give you all the information you might need.

The name of the author and the year of publication must be mentioned either before or after the quotation with this order.

(Name,year,page number)

Order of names:

If the number of authors is 1 to 4 then the names are written using an alphabetic order, however, if there are 5 or more authers then the templates dictates to add the citation as follows.

( Name of the first author et al , year)

If the number of authors is between 3 and 5, the first time you mention the citation you need to write the all but from the second time on you write the first author's name plus et al.

Refrences:

Unlike in-text citation , in refrences you need to mention complete names of authors. However, if the number of authors exeeds 7 you list only the first 6 names, an ellipsis(...), then you write the name of the senior auther.
