Writing an Introduction:

The inrtoduction of your thesis or proposal is an important in many ways. It is the very first impression you make on your readers and it is best you make a strong one. An introduction consists of several parts. The following gives an outline of an introduction and how you can write it.

1.1 Background

You give a general background and mention the significance of the matter at hand.

1.2 Statement of the problem

You specify the gap in the bulk of research,what has been missing.

Expressions used in this part carry a negative tone, expressions such as however, there has been a lack of, little attention has been given to.

1.3 Purpose of the study

For one paragraph you elaborate on the purpose of your study, using example such as this study intends ..., the aim of this study ... .

You do not talk about the implications of the study and how your work is important.

1.4 Research hypothesis

This is where you mention your hypothesis, H₀ or H_{1 determine the interpretation of your results.}

1.5 Research questions

Here you write the exact resarch questions you are asking and this clarifies the nature of your work, whether it is qualitative or quantitative.

1.6 The significance of the study

In this section you explain how the results of your study can be beneficial.

1.7 Definition of key terms

You provide your redears with operational definitions for the key terms of your research.
